On-Court
Max Purcell, known as “Cep” to his fans and peers, has become a formidable force on both the ATP Singles and Doubles circuits. Breaking into the ATP singles Top 200 in 2021, Max climbed to a career-high No. 40 in October 2023. Purcell’s 2023 season brought him some of his biggest wins, including a stunning upset over World No. 7 Casper Ruud en route to the Cincinnati Masters quarterfinal. Known for his resilience, Purcell also made waves in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by stepping in for Andy Murray and defeating No. 15 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round.
In doubles, Purcell reached a career-high ranking of No. 8 in 2024. He captured the 2023 Wimbledon title alongside Matt Ebden, marking the first time an all-Aussie team took the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon since 2000. Most recently, Purcell secured the 2024 US Open doubles championship with fellow Aussie Jordan Thompson.
Off-Court
Away from the court, Max Purcell is a laid-back Aussie with a love for sports, coffee, a sense of humour, and a fierce loyalty to his country’s culture. He grew up playing on synthetic grass, which helped shape his love for grass courts—Wimbledon remains his favourite tournament. Purcell’s favourite shot? The slice backhand, of course.
Max also follows cricket passionately, rooting for the Australian National Team and admiring Pat Cummins. Off the court, you’ll find him cooking, catching up on Netflix, going to the gym, or hanging out with friends. His favourite food? Mexican, hands down. “It’s the best—don’t argue with me,” he jokes. Known for his sense of humour, Purcell laughs that this is his best quality.”
With his laid-back style and determined on-court performance, Max Purcell continues to build an impressive career in professional tennis while remaining a true Aussie through and through.
